
Skate NL is pleased to announce the appointment of its 2027 Jeux Du Canada Winter Games Team Staff. Coaches Neal Thorne, Brittany Morgan, Kathryn Petten, and Team Manager Susan Dean will provide coaching and leadership to Team NL’s figure skaters.
Neal Thorne, a National Certified Coach, will participate in his fifth Jeux Du Canada Winter Games. His extensive coaching experience includes assignments at the 2023 PEI Games, the 2019 Games in Red Deer, and the 2011 Halifax Games. As an athlete, Neal represented Newfoundland and Labrador in Pairs at the 2003 Campbellton-Bathurst Games and in Singles at the 1999 Canada Games in Corner Brook.
Brittany Morgan, a Provincial Certified Coach, will attend her third Jeux Du Canada Games as part of Team NL. She has previously contributed to our coaching staff at the 2023 PEI Games and the 2015 Games in Prince George.
Kathryn Petten, also a Provincial Certified Coach, will make her debut with Team NL and eagerly anticipates her first participation at the Jeux Du Canada Games.
Susan Dean returns as Team Manager for her third Jeux Du Canada Games, having fulfilled this role at both the 2023 PEI Games and the 2019 Red Deer Games.
The 2027 Jeux Du Canada Games will host approximately 3,500 athletes and coaches competing across 22 sports disciplines. Newfoundland and Labrador’s figure skating contingent will include up to 12 skaters competing in Singles, Special Olympics, Pairs, and Ice Dance events. The Games will run from February 27 to March 14, 2027, in Quebec City, which also hosted the first Canada Games held in 1967
